3. Procedures during employment

 

l  Change in employee's address

When an employee reports a change in his/her address, the employer is required to notify the change to the agencies concerned.

 

l  Loss of or damage to an insurance card

The company can apply for reissue of the insurance card.

 

l  Medical treatment received without presenting an insurance card such as in the case of an injury or sudden illness during a trip, etc.

For any medical treatment received at a hospital etc. without presenting an insurance card, the patient has to pay the medical expenses in full. For the services which are subject to standard health insurance treatment, please notify us. Upon application, a difference between the amount assessed based on the standard insurance treatment expense and the payment to be made by the patient may be reimbursed to the patient as a medical care expense benefit.

 

l  Absence from work for four days or longer due to an injury or sickness not related to work

For the workers covered by the Employees' Health Insurance, an injury and sickness allowance equivalent to 60% of the standard daily remuneration will be provided.

 

l  High medical care expenses due to hospitalization, etc.

For medical care expenses exceeding the fixed level, the benefit for high-cost medical care will be provided upon application. When the medical care expenses get too high for an employee, a loan based on the high-cost medical care allowance is available for the employee.

 

l  Marriage and childbirth

When an employee gets married and changes his/her name, the change must be reported to the agencies concerned.

 

l  Injury or accident during the course of work (excluding commutation)

Any injury or accident that occurs during the course of work, you may apply for compensation under the workers' accident compensation insurance.

 

l  Injury or accident during commutation

In the case an employee is injured in an automobile accident while commuting to or from the place of work, such injury should be compensated in principle by a liability insurance (compulsory or voluntary) of the other party responsible for the accident as an accident caused by a third party. Depending on the situation, however, an application may be filed for compensation under the workers' accident compensation insurance.

 

l  Increase in pay or change in salary structure

Whenever a salary is increased or decreased or any allowance is newly introduced, such changes may require an amendment to the amounts of social insurance contributions.

 

l  Medical examination

Please make sure that the employees receive a regular medical examination every year. A medical examination may be required every six months depending on the type of work or if the work involves extremely long hours beyond office hours (overtime work). A hospital or clinic to provide a medical examination may be designated by the company. Social insurance offices and health insurance societies provide a wide range of medical examinations at reasonable prices, which we would like to highly recommend for your consideration.

 

l  Benefits for employees taking child-care or nursing leave

When employees take child-care or nursing leave as they may be exempted from the payment of social insurance contributions or receive benefits from the employment insurance system.

 

l  Protection of aged employees

Under the current regulations, it is not permitted to establish a mandatory retirement age of less than 60 years old. In order to encourage employment of elderly workers, the employment insurance system provides workers in the age range from 60 to 65 remaining in employment with continued employment benefits for older workers.
